Introduction

Learn how to install a Motion Sensor in your XFINITY Home - Control system.

Do You Have XFINITY Home - Secure?
Professional installation of Motion Sensors is required for XFINITY Home - Secure customers. Call 1-800-XFINITY to schedule an appointment.

What You'll Need:

  • XFINITY Home - Control
  • The Motion Sensor(s) that you want to add to your system
  • The double-sided tape and installation hardware included with the Sensor
  • A drill with a bit that's appropriate for your wall type
  • A Phillips-head screwdriver

Installing a Motion Sensor

Preparing for Installation

  1. Make sure you've paired the Motion Sensor to your XFINITY Home system prior to installation (see XFINITY Home - Control: Pairing Your Motion Sensor).
  2. Plan where you want your Motion Sensor to go. It must be:
    • Indoors
    • Seven to eight feet above the floor
    • Mounted on a stable, vibration-free surface
    • Away from sources of heating or cooling
    • Away from high-voltage electrical lines
    • Out of direct sunlight
    • Where there are no windows, obstacles or moving fans in its field of view
    • Not tilted down at more than a 20-degree angle (a larger angle can restrict its field of view)

Installing with Tape (Flat Surface Only)

  1. Peel the paper coating off of one side of the double-sided tape and stick the tape to the back of the Sensor.

  2. Peel the remaining paper off of the tape and stick the Sensor to the clean, dry, flat surface at the Sensor mounting position you identified in Preparing for Installation. Press firmly.
    • Important! Make sure the cover screw is at the bottom; otherwise, the Sensor will be upside down.

That's it! You can now create a rule (see XFINITY Home - Control: Managing Rules and Modes) and you can control the Sensor through your XFINITY Home Web Portal and the XFINITY Home Mobile app. (For additional information, see XFINITY Home - Control: Getting Started with the XFINITY Home Mobile App.)
